Two-Billion Light Years of Solitude

Toi Whakaari Whanake festival 2025

“A suspended sphere of ice slowly melts, its droplets falling onto a bed of cracked concrete cubes below. As time passes, the ice diminishes, while water seeps into the fractured surfaces beneath. This temporal sculpture explores the quiet presence of imperfection, simplicity, and fragility. The ephemeral nature of ice contrasts with the solidity of concrete, yet both materials reveal their vulnerabilities—melting, cracking, absorbing. In this meditation on transience, a sense of solitude takes on a quiet presence.”
